The Energy of Clutter

Did you know that clutter carries energy? Chronic clutter in certain areas of your home can manifest into actual challenges in areas of your life.

Quick Feng Shui 101: Everything in your life can be put into 1 of 9 life categories. Each of these categories is represented spatially in your home. See graphic for details.

Following are examples of 3 areas of life (and where to find them!) that could be improved just by removing the clutter!

Prosperity. Far back left-hand corner of your home

Clutter in this area can:

  • clog your cashflow

  • cause overall financial situation to stagnate

  • make it difficult to create ANY abundance in your life

Remove anything broken, images representing poverty and/or depress you. Add healthy plants, water fountain, images that represent prosperity to you.

Love/Relationship. Far back right-hand corner of your home

Clutter in this area can:

  • make finding the right partner difficult

  • reflect a chaotic marriage/partnership

  • distort image of self

Remove items from past relationships or imagery of sad, lonely people. Add pairs of objects such as two candles, two pieces of rose quartz (the love stone!) or a pair of love birds.

Career. Front center of your home

Clutter in this area can:

  • make life feel like an uphill battle

  • feel like in rut

  • aren’t doing what you want and have no idea what it is

Remove imagery reminding jobs disliked, dead plants, Add light, water fountain or mirror.

To really ignite these areas, set your intentions while making these improvements. Feng Shui action + Intentions is when the magic really begins!

Happy Feng Shui’ing!

Networking from a Feng Shui POV

Networking from a Feng Shui POV

Have you ever walked into a networking event and felt uncomfortable? Worse, unwelcome?

Unfortunately, this is not an uncommon feeling. Fortunately, together, we can easily fix this with Feng Shui!

Feng Shui + Networking

I’ve been an active member of three organizations for 7+ years. Even after all this time, it can still feel intimidating walking into a room of people even when I know them. If it’s the first time I’ve walked in – that can be downright nerve-wracking!

What's Wrong with This Picture

I love this picture. After 20+ years it still brings me joy and makes me laugh. Like literally laugh out loud

Victory!

This is a picture of my parents, visiting my sister in Mongolia while she was in the Peace Corps. They’ve just learned that my boyfriend of 10 years and I had eloped to Las Vegas. Our fur babies were now legitimate! Their expressions say it all. Love. Joy. Happiness.

As I mentioned, I love this picture. I love it so much I blew it up and framed it. And hung it up. In our bedroom. Facing our bed.

Not my wedding picture. You know, the one of my husband and me?

Nope. I hung this one. Of my mom and dad. Of my sister. Giving us the “V” for Victory Sign. Every night. As we went to bed….We had a cheering section. Every time we hopped into bed.

Do you get what I’m saying here?

Your bedroom is your sanctuary.

Your bedroom is the one place in the house that should be exclusively about you or you and your partner. It is for sleep and intimacy. That’s it. Everything in your room should support one of those two functions.

As I learned during my first Feng Shui consultation, the only eyeballs that should be in your bedroom are of you and your honey. It’s not the place for pictures of friends and family. These pictures can literally live anywhere else in your home. Not your bedroom.

It’s not a conscious thing. But, pictures of family, especially those facing your bed can do a real number on intimacy. Most often, your subconscious is putting on the brakes. It does not want your mom and dad witnessing your naked dancing (especially while making the Victory Sign)! Over time, this can cause significant challenges in a relationship.

What kind of pictures should you hang up in your bedroom?

That picture came down so stinkin’ fast. It was replaced with a lovely picture of the two of us. One where we both look and feel good. Additionally, the rest of the artwork and pictures in our room represented love, connection, and partnership.  The exact things we want in our relationship.

So. What pictures are in your bedroom? Seriously! I really want to know. :)

Ask for what want through your Artwork

Ask for what want through your Artwork

When placed with intention, artwork is an easy and powerful way to bring good energy into your home.  Word of caution - if you aren't paying attention, the subject matter can easily work against you.

Consider your artwork to be ‘an order form to the universe’ as my girlfriend says.  You display it and the universe does it’s best to provide.

Who is buried in YOUR basement?

Who is buried in YOUR basement?

When discussing cutter, I tell my clients all the time, just clean 1 drawer, 1 shelf, a junk-collecting bowl - anything.  Big or small.  And when you do, you will feel empowered, lighter, optimistic.  You will feel so good, the motivation and opportunities to continue magically appear and you will achieve de-cluttering greatness.  And that goes for me too.

Plastic cards, they breed like bunnies!

Plastic cards, they breed like bunnies!

I cannot bring myself to throw away those very popular plastic cards; you know the ones – gift cards, reward cards, hotel keys, poker cut cards (maybe that one is just me).  I have a stack of expired, out-dated, no-longer-relevant plastic cards.   Most curbside recycling programs do not accept these little guys. And so, the stack just grows and grows, waiting for a new home.

This Aunt's Journey in Gift Giving - The Big Day!

The great Christmas Present Experiment of 2014 had launched. With the intention of not adding to their stuff and organizing what they already had, my hubby and I gave two of our nieces a "Day of Fun" that included;

  • hanging with Aunt Robyn & Uncle Bob (gift in itself)
  • shopping for organizational tools
  • dinner at their favorite restaurant and
  • one hour of organizing – with a professional organizer to use those organization tools we bought

This Aunt's Journey in Gift Giving - It's GO time.

Ta da! I did it. I came up with the perfect Christmas gift for two of my nieces.  My hubby and I were going to solve the one bathroom-lack-of-storage-get-the-kids-out-of-their-parent’s-bathroom dilemma.  We decided to give them an hour of organizing with Eliza Cantlay of Simplicana plus a day of fun where we would shop together for the "Eliza-approved" storage items and then celebrate with dinner! I really feel like we nailed it!

This Aunt's journey in gift giving. Experiences vs. Stuff.

I spend so much time talking about clutter and the affect it has on our lives.  I know it, you know it, we all know it. Clutter is a big deal because clutter kills chi. As a parent, it's never too early to teach your children to keep things organized and clutter- free and to introduce the principles of feng shui.

Clutter Shows Up in the Darndest Places!

Clutter Shows Up in the Darndest Places!

Do you collect greeting cards so you can snag the perfect one at a moment’s notice?  I do too. Most of the time, it’s been a great system. Tonight, though, it struck me that I’ve got some really, really old clunkers. Clearly I must have thought they were great at the time (like 20 years ago!), but now they are clutter. That means they are also an energy drain, pure and simple.
